Nearly two decades after their journey as ritualistic black metal sorcerers, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM emerged from the woods in 2021 with their most majestic Album yet, 'Primordial Arcana'. This is the band's first fully self-contained work, with the Weaver brothers and guitarist Kody Keyworth handling all aspects of recording, producing, and mixing at their own Owl Lodge Studios in the forests of Washington state. The Album's title is a reference to the band's constant return to the oldest, archetypal energies. While the proverbial fire in the northern sky remains the band's artistic palette, 'Primordial Arcana' expands black metal with musical forms that preceded the devastating second wave of the genre. 'After discovering Metallica and Slayer in our early teenage years, the first extreme metal bands we liked were Deicide and Morbid Angel,' explains Aaron Weaver. 'So death metal has been there from the beginning, and I think it really shines on this record.' Symphonic black metal was also a significant inspiration. 'We wanted to emphasize the role of synthesizers to create an epic and grand atmosphere,' says Aaron. All of this is further evidence that WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM are a band with few peers. 'I think we have a unique voice in the world of extreme metal,' says Aaron. 'We come from an unapologetically genuine and personal perspective, and we have not made any concessions to what is expected of us.' The standard CD jewel case replaces the sold-out limited CD mediabook.
