by Matthias Mineur (02/03) Gothic Metal seems to be predestined for sensory lyrics. Not only the airy gowns of the female fans of this genre make... errm... lust for more, also the Gothic-prose are fantasy-promoting. Like on "Escapexstacy", the debut album by the Finnish band, Poisonblack. Main writer is Ville Laihiala, ex-frontamn of Sentenced who decided two years ago to return to his guitar and try another side of his self. For a debut album, "Escapexstacy" is extremely matured and skilled, skilfully varies with moods and atmospheres, presents a lot of fine melodies and supports the predominantly erotic lyrics with beguiling music. With the Charon-singer J.P. Leppõluoto, Poisonblack also have the right frontman adding the right mood and depths to the songs with his melancholic voice. That this band will have a bright future is clear after the first few chords of their album.
