Inspired by bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash and the Ramones, three young men aged 16 and 17 respectively founded the band Böhse Onkelz in November 1980. Influenced by Frankfurt suburban life, Kevin Russell, Stephan Weidner and Peter Schorowsky have joined forces to kick society's ass with their handmade music.
One year after the band was founded, guitarist Matthias Röhr joined the band and completed the still young band. The Onkelz were full of energy and willing to sacrifice their lives so far for the music. But especially in the early days, the Onkelz made mostly negative headlines, which still damage the band's image today.
Onkelz like us!
Musically, the Onkelz from Frankfurt moved until about 1985 in the area of the Oi! -Punk, later ska and hard rock influences were added. From the album "Onkelz Wie Wir" their style developed in the direction of heavy metal and was later again clearly influenced by hard rock. In their lyrics, the German rockers around frontman and singer Kevin Russell often deal with the statements of their critics, the meaning of life and social and political grievances.
Due to the lyrics and the history of the Böhsen Onkelz, the band members were often labeled as neo-Nazis. The guys have already proven a few times that the Onkelz have realized their mistakes and give a shit about Nazis. The Onkelz are just as uninterested in Nazis and right-wing rock as we are!
With their two albums "Schwarz" and "Weiß", the Böhsen Onkelz entered the German charts for the first time in 1993. The follow-up album "E.I.N.S" was even voted into the top 10 of the best metal albums of all time by the readers of various trade magazines - respect!
From this point on, nothing stood in the way of the band's success. With their albums "Viva Los Tioz", "Ein Böses Märchen...", "Aus Tausend Finsteren Nächten" and "Dopamine", the Onkelz reached number 1 in the German charts three times in a row and were nominated five times for the Echo between 1999 and 2006.
The end of the Böhse Onkelz era
After 25 years of band history, the Böhsen Onkelz decided in 2004 to draw a line with their album "Adios" - and what a line! As a farewell, the Onkelz organized a huge farewell open-air festival under the name "Vaya con Tioz" at the Euro Speedway Lausitz. There was partying, camping, drinking, and of course crying.
Songs like "Bomberpilot", "Hated, Damned, Idolized!", "No Amnesty for MTV" or "Nothing is for Eternity" were celebrated like never before - what a band, what a concert, what songs! With the later released live DVD "Vaya Con Tioz", the Böhsen Onkelz finally won the long-awaited Echo four years after their separation.
Nothing is for eternity
And while we're on the subject of "Nichts ist für die Ewigkeit": the Onkelz celebrated their comeback in 2014 - even if only for a few concerts (for the time being). On June 20 and 21, the Onkelz gave two huge concerts at the Hockenheimring. No wonder that the tickets were completely sold out. However, this also meant that not every fan could get a ticket. But that was no reason to let anger arise, because the Onkelz returned for concerts in 2015 as well. Those who could not be there can watch the performances comfortably from the sofa.
BO merchandise for the album "Memento"
With "Memento", the Böhsen Onkelz have finally released a new album after 10 years of abstinence. Just a few years ago, no one believed in a comeback of the Onkelz, but then they came back for a few concerts and now they have returned completely - including album number 18. The 12-track album serves you a fresh and explosive mix of big themes, personal demons and a good dose of pathos.
Songs like "Markt und Moral", "Frei", "Nach allen Regeln der Sucht" or "Gott hat ein Problem" clearly show that the Onkelz are stronger than ever before. All songs were created democratically and each of the four Onkelz has incorporated their personal ideas into the songwriting. "Momento" shows that the Onkelz and especially the fans are still far from having enough.
BÖHSE ONKELZ – New Album
How time flies! The Onkelz are celebrating their 40th anniversary. So much has happened in this time – no one can really understand it. The Onkelz themselves probably least of all. The new album is simply called "BÖHSE ONKELZ". And also on the cover, the Onkelz return to their roots. Finally a band photo as the cover of the record. The gentlemen still look good. But what do we care about the appearance here?!
The new Onkelz record is bilious, dirty, energizing and real! 12 songs made it onto the album. 12 songs that put the finger directly in the wound - in the Onkelz's own wound. The album puts an end to pink Trallala and is still more positive than it has been for a long time. Celebrate 40 years of Onkelz with us – with cake and beer! Get the new Böhse Onkelz album on CD now. Of course, the 40th anniversary album of the Onkelz is also available on vinyl. In this sense, awaken the demons!
